Friday Night Pickup Basketball Provides Local Youth with a Fun Way to Play Competitive Basketball

Harleysville, PA – It started as a memory from childhood, Friday evenings with good friends playing pickup basketball. All out play, full-court press, friends versus friends in all out games, whoever showed up played. That memory was the inspiration behind Corey Lord and CAL Sports Academy’s recent Friday Night Pickup Basketball Program hosted at Montgomery County Sports Performance Center.

It started a few weeks ago with 15 players and has grown to over 40 players on a Friday night playing round-robin games for 10 minutes or the first to 7 points, with each basket counting for one point. The teams keep rotating and playing each other for 2 hours and it provides a healthy outlet for kids to get exercise on Friday nights versus watching TV or playing video games. During the games Coaches Corey Lord and Aaron Dean pause from time to time to provide instruction during the games. The philosophy of solid technical play, with fairness and sportsmanship are emphasized throughout all games. Kids from all over Montgomery County are discovering this program and in turn the variety of camps, clinics and AAU leagues that CAL Sports Academy offers on a weekly basis. “After only a few weeks we are seeing a tremendous spike in attendance at Friday Night Basketball, parents are always searching for ways to keep their kids healthy and active and this program is the perfect outlet for kids who just want to play basketball,” said Corey Lord, owner of CAL Sports Academy. “We keep the teams random from week to week so that the kids (boys and girls) learn to play with different players and that no one team dominates the other teams. The growth of the program really shows that parents want another outlet for their kids and it shows they want to keep their kids active and having fun.” The Friday Night Pickup Basketball Program is the first of it’s kind in the area and it is absolutely the most affordable 2-hour program available to boys and girls grades 2 through 6 at $15.00 per player. No other sports program mixes kids of all ages and abilities together to help them all improve their game the way Friday Night Pickup Basketball does.
